PNCC Brings FIFA World Cup to Palau on Digital TV Channel 65
June 4, 2010
Palau National Communications Corporation (PNCC) is pleased to announce that the
FIFA World Cup competition will be shown to
all Basic subscribers free of charge
on Digital TV Channel 65 beginning June 11, 2010.
Thanks to a special agreement between participating Pacific Island TV operators
and FIFA, with the assistance of TV New Zealand and Fiji’s Mai TV, a free broadcast
of FIFA World Cup games will be aired in more than ten Pacific Island nations including
Palau.
According to PNCC GM Richard
L. Misech, “PNCC is happy to be able to bring this
exciting sporting event to Palau’s soccer fans, and we’re grateful to FIFA, Mai
TV and TVNZ for providing this service free of charge. If you’re a soccer fan but
not already a Basic customer, this is a great time to sign up.”
The FIFA World Cup, live from South Africa, will include 64 matches and is scheduled
to start Friday, June 11, 2010 with the Opening Ceremony at 9:00 pm Palau time followed
by the first match at 11:00 pm, and will run through June 12. The
detailed schedule
will be posted on PNCC Digital TV Channel 1 and on PNCC’s website at www.palaunet.com.
Since each 2-hour match is broadcast live from South Africa, the games will be shown
in Palau in the evening (either 8:30pm or 11:00pm) or very early in the morning
Palau time (3:30am), including six of the final matches. To make it more convenient
for viewers, PNCC will record these six finals for replay later the same day on
Channel 65.
To see the FIFA World Cup on Channel 65 for free, Digital TV Basic subscribers just
need to restore default in their Set Top Box. For help, please call 611.
